Vote Swapping Skating Scandal?

Each and every Olympic Games since Salt Lake, Canada sends our best to represent us on the International stage and the question on the mind of some is simple – will the Judges be fair or Cheat?

As  Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir take to the ice in Sochi, deep down it must ponder this question, albeit our of there control and if asked admit “they won’t let the rumblings of a skating scandal ruin their final Olympic appearance.”

Figure Skating LogoA short twelve (12)  years after the judging scandal that took the Salt Lake Olympics to a “new low” it’s obvious that Canada’s Olympic Ice Dance Champions found new controversy in a the sport they love.

Tessa told the media “I guess that’s part of being in a judged sport, there’s nothing you can do about that.”

In a French newspaper (L’Equipe) they mentioned that Russian judges would help keep Virtue and Moir off the top of the podium, in favour of Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White. You make the call?

If this would happen, the American judges would help Russia win Gold in the new team event. all this according to the French paper.

It clearly brought back memories of the judging scandal or the dark days in Salt Lake City, when Jamie Sale and David Pelletier were temporarily denied Gold due to backroom dealing between judges. Remember this??

Both Virtue and Moir were taken aback when they arrived in the mixed zone after their short dance program Saturday night, part of the inaugural team event, and the first question asked was about the brewing scandal.

As Canadian’s we learn to understand that not all Judges are honest in what is one of the most expensive sports to compete in. Moir told the media that “Judging) is not at the top of our minds and  as Canadians we lived through Sale and Pelletier.”

Virtue (24) and Moir (26) are in their 17th season together and it’s expected they will retire following these Olympic Games.

They were beaten by Davis and White in the short dance as the American’s scored 75.98 while Canada scored 72.98 due to the fact that Virtue lost her balance on their twizzles, side to side travelling spins, which they were unable to recover.

This sport has a past with this sort of stuff, but it’s truly nothing they can do, except remove the Judges for life or ban the country from competing and have them miss the next Olympics. How would they react to that?

Naturally the US Figure Skating states the reports are “False”, what else could they say?

It’s hoped that this is not the case, but with this sport – really nothing would surprise me? Thoughts?

Let me know!!
