Volunteer’s Play Important Role
The Volunteers are the back bone of the success at the recent Odlum Brown Vancouver Tennis held at the Hollyburn Country Club that started a week prior to the BC Day long weekend event.
One such volunteer is Jena Friend and her task is taking care of the ball boys and girls as well as the over 200 volunteers to ensure the fans were properly seated or directed to their assigned seats.
A commitment of this nature is very important to the success of this tournament and she makes sure that all volunteers are stationed so as to greet the fans upon their arrival.
A commitment like this can sometimes have issues that you have no control over and probably the biggest one is when scheduled people/volunteers fail to show up and their duties are directed to other individuals
Jena mentioned “at the beginning she is given a contact list of people that have assisted in the past and they get new people every year who come out, probably all encouraged by their friends and each has to be oriented as to how things are run behind the scene.”
The total volunteers this year at the Odlum Brown Vancouver Tennis Open with ushers ball boys and girls numbered over 200 and all have important key jobs that have to be addressed.
Congrats to Jena on a great job in her second year of the duties and from what we saw everything ran smooth!!
Sharon at the information booth a volunteer for 30 years and a regular at this years event and she had her son beside her his first full year at the tournament she does this for the passion of the sport and enjoyment of reaching out to the fans and making them feel welcome great job Sharon through out the tournament.
In addition to her recognition it should be noted that she received the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for her many hours of being a volunteer in various events.
You can find out about her on the Govenor Generals Award Page one of only 60 to receive the award.
To all the volunteers at this years Odlum Brown Tennis Classic Tennis thank you for a job well done!!!
