VI University/Baja Volleyball Team Up

Vancouver IslandUniversity and the Baja California Volleyball Program set a solid Sport Cooperation

The Vancouver Island University Mariners expect a great training camp experience after opening their activities with some scrimmage sessions at The Baja California High Performance Center.

The Canadian and Baja Californian teams hope to set closer ties and a solid cooperation partnership according to César Osuna Brambila, Baja California Sports Institute Development Director.

“The cooperation is stronger than ever”, said the former Mexican Olympic Volleyball player.

He also remarked that this kind of exchanges with first level universities is positive for the region of Baja California.

“It is a pleasure to have you here. Please feel like staying at home.

This is a Center certified by the International Volleyball Federation and the Norceca Volleyball Confederation and we hope you have a nice staying here,” said Osuna during The Press conference that took part at The High Performance Center on Saturday.

Along with Osuna Vancouver Island University Head Coach, Abery Mattew Avender, was present as well as his assistant Drew Carson Venables.

Also Baja California Volleyball Association President Alberto Arreola attended after being appointed as training camp technical coordinator.

Baja California State Men’s Team Head coach, Óscar Licea, was also at the announcement.

During the meeting with the media the VIU Mariners players were introduced. Roster members are: Bennett King, Carson McCormick, King Nyberg, Gregory Howe, Dillon Collett, Diego Bustos, Rylan Brouwer, Wayne Hendrickson, Reghan Cobbe, Theodore Stewart, Zacharie Grigg, Hans Johnson and Nicholas Stefanakis.

Canadian players and technical staff also received some souvenirs and gifts like the traditional “Yo soy Baja” t-shirts and caps, used by the local Sport delegation as part of a warming welcome.
