TWO NEW INDUCTEES

The Vancouver Canadians Broadcast & Journalism Hall of Fame is proud to announce its two newest inductees as journalist Steve Ewen and broadcaster Bob Robertson will be enshrined out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Saturday, August 30.

Ewen has given the Canadians a voice within the pages of the Vancouver Province for the past 14 seasons and has covered all six of the C’s playoff runs in the Northwest League (2004, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013).

As diverse a writer as you will find on the Vancouver media landscape, Ewen has also covered the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Baseball program giving baseball fans insight into the development of our future stars with a local connection.

Robertson, who is set to turn 85 on March 15th, becomes the first non-Vancouver broadcaster to be inducted although his ties to our city run deep.

The former Templeton Jr. High standout eventually relocated to the United States with his family where he would soon find his way behind a microphone for the first time in 1947.  He has not been off the air since.

Robertson’s accomplishments include being the voice of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1955-56) followed by becoming play-by-play broadcaster of the Washington State Cougars for 46 seasons calling over 530 NCAA football games including 470 consecutive contests.

Robertson is in the NCAA College Hall of Fame, Washington State Hall of Fame and the Washington State Cougars Hall of Fame.

His ties to baseball include duties as the lead voice of the Seattle / Tacoma Rainiers from 1984 through 1999 before he took to the airwaves as lead voice of Indians Baseball, having travelled with Spokane as part of the Northwest League since 2000.

The Canadians will host both Ewen and Robertson at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Saturday, August 30th, 2014 at 7:05pm with a post-game ceremony.

Thanks to Rob Fai for the info.
