Lifetime Achievement Award

If you look at him, you might wonder what he does, but the more you get to know him, it’s easy to understand his passion on promoting baseball in Canada to the World.

He settled in Delta in 1975 and hasn’t looked back, from his days as a volunteer groundskeeper, then moving on to coaching, he has seen it all, including the role of President.

Talk about holding various positions in a specific sport, then actually doing them all is another and simply put – Ray has taken on the role on as President of BC Minor Baseball, President of Baseball BC, Vice-President of Baseball Canada and, in 2000, he was elected as the President of Baseball Canada, a position he still holds today.justin and ray

Earlier Chad Dey and I hosted Ray on “The Locker Room” the sports show shown daily on Delta TV and we spoke about everything from local players making the pro’s to Olympic status for ball, to the Toronto Blue Jay’s development of Baseball in Canada.

Ray is pictured with Justin Borges the Producer of “The Locker Room” at Delta TV.

Ray is as honest as an individual as you would get and extremely direct if challenged with any question we asked, albeit – we were easy on him.

This past weekend Baseball BC hosted a Coaches Conference at the Langley Events Centre, which I attended as a guest of Ray.

I can say that I did have my “eyes open” when listening to the guest speakers they had on the agenda and they covered topics I never heard of in my “say 40 plus” years!

Instructional video, hands-on teaching to one-on-one’s with the pro’s and beyond for all the attending Coaches that were in awe of what they were listening to.

The list of guest speakers included the likes of Pete Caliendo, Jim Jones, Nilo Ghajar-Williams, Jim Lefebvre and Jim Murphy.

What these individuals offered was truly unaltered stories on development of the Athlete to the Pro’s and beyond, Biomechanics of the Baseball Swing, with special teaching on the Velocity Plus Arm Care.

Not sure what this is – neither was I till I watched and asked later in the session and boy what a shock to learn about.

With all of his involvement, he will tell you it’s not about him, but rather about the Volunteers in the sport in all areas of the Country.

As a long-time sport volunteer, Carter was honoured with the Governor General’s medal for volunteerism in 1993, and, in 2006, was inducted into the Delta Sports Hall of Fame.

His name also holds a permanent place at a Midget baseball diamond inTsawwassen, christened “Ray Carter Field” in 2009.

Then President and CEO of Sport BC Tim Gayda stated “It takes an amazing amount of passion to dedicate the time Ray Carter has to the development of sport in not only his community, but also his Province and Country.”

Ray once stated “Baseball has been a big part of my life and I am sure it has given me more than I have given to baseball,”
said Carter. “To be singled out when so many are deserving is indeed special. I am honoured and grateful.”

Truly a pro in all areas of SPORT!!!

We were truly pleased to have Ray on the Show on Delta TV. Oh yea – a Delta resident too.
