Thunder Take 3-1 Series Lead

Alex Turner’s goal at 4:37 of O/T helped the Thunder defeat the Adanacs 8-7 Saturday at the Coquitlam Sports Centre as in front of a good size crowd. This gives them a 3-1 series lead in the best of seven in the WLA action.

They are looking at a return trip allowing them to go to the Mann Cup championship.

They would face-off against the Ontario Champ’s the Peterborough Pete’s. Langley can wrap up the series Monday (August 27th) at the LEC. Game time 7:45pm.

The teams were deadlocked in the opening period which featured a solid goalkeeping between Thunder’s McDonald and Adanacs Rose.

The first goal was not until late in the period as Olson scored (unassisted) for the Adanacs with 6:51 remaining putting a bullet past McDonald giving them a 1-0 lead.

The Thunder’s Susheski got the equalizer beating Rose on a buzzer beater with 01: second left on the clock tying the game at 1-1. Each team exchanged 15 shots in the period.

Ratcliff gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead at 7:34 which was followed up Jackson’s marker who beat Rose 1:37 later giving the visitors a 3-1 lead.

The Adanacs rebounded scoring three goals in a span of 1:30 as Johnson, Dobbie, and Olson (second of the night) giving the Adanacs a 4-3 lead after 40. Shots through two were 38-35 for Coquitlam.

Olson got his hat trick putting Coquitlam up 5-3 lead 36 seconds in to the final period, but Langley rebounded on a pair from Ratcliff (three goal game) bringing Langley to tie the game at 5 scoring 4:57 seconds apart.

Cornwall restored Coquitlam’s lead at 3:19 beating McDonald, which looked to be a safe bet, but Thunder’s Ratcliff was awarded a PS which he converted with 1:47 left tying the game at 6 and sending it to O/T.

Shots in regulation were 53-48 for the Adanacs.

The opening 10 minute O/T saw the teams traded goals as McCready (1:45 in) gave the Thunder a 7-6 lead.

Coquitlam tied the game 7 as Veltman beat McDonald (4:27) and it remained tied going into sudden-victory.

The extra session saw Langley’s Turner get the game winner at 4 minute in giving his team a 8-7 victory.

This put a lock on the series 3-1 with a chance to wrap up the series Monday LEC and return to the Mann Cup Championship against the Peterborough Pete’s.

Final shots were 62-60 for Langley as McDonald stopped 53 in the game four the victory Rose of the Adanacs stopped 54 saves for the Adanacs.
