Orangeville Thumps Coquitlam

With the Orangeville Northmen playing so close to home and taking a perfect record through the round-robin with a perfect record they revved it up to a higher gear in the opener of the best-of-three tournament final.

They scored four (4) times in the first building a 10-2 lead after two to secure a commanding 19-7 victory over Coquitlam.

All games are played Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby. This is Canada’s largest municipally owned and operated multi-use sports complex and is surrounded by 50 acres of lush parkland.

The Northmen, who won their three games by a combined score of 32-13, beat the Adanacs 9-5 in the tourney opener.

The Northmen had not played since closing out the round robin on Tuesday, but it was an outstanding second period that secured the victory.

One of thirteen that are in their final year for the Norsemen is Mitchell Jones who had five points in that second and eventually finished with six goals and 13 points on the night.

Benn, Hellyer and McMahon each had three each with others coming from Dance, MacKay and Critch with two.

Northmen coach Matt Sawyer knows the series is far from done, but still remains more concerned about his own club rather than Coquitlam.

Coquitlam was nothing like the team that knocked off host and defending champs Whitby Warriors in the semi-final two days prior.

They struggled to find any offence, while the Orangeville attack gave their back end, and the goaltending duo of Diruscio and Camazzola, fits all night long.

Schafer and Berg each scored twice for the Coquitlam, while Church, Ricci and McIntosh added singles. Neil Dinsdale, Coach of the Adanacs expects a better effort when the two teams return to the floor for Saturday night.

Let’s see which teams shows up to play as it’s too early for any team to play foolish and diminish Canada’s National Summer Sport!!
