Having a focus to promote Amateur sport with a “mix of pro” in today’s world can only help assist today’s youth to not only become better athletes but also have a stronger understanding of what sport is about.
I received the following from Laird and wanted to share his words of a Beatles song called the “Long and Winding Road” which all athletes set their dreams on.
Enjoy the read:
This is a story of a young ladies’ hopes and dreams coming true.
In 1993/94 I was stationed with the RCMP in Victoria, BC. Due to my traffic experience, I was seconded to the Traffic Sub Committee of the XV Commonwealth Games.
During these duties I crossed paths with many persons from the sporting field to assist me in my duties.
Through this I met a family whose Dad, Richard Way was heavily into sports for everyone. His daughter Cecilia was showing a strong ability on the soccer pitch.
As you know, after retirement I got into the sports photo game and met the Way family many times and was keeping track of the daughter Cecilia Way venture leading to her dream goal
When I heard through the grapevine that Cecilia’s soccer team was going to be playing in a soccer tournament at the Newton Athletic Park, Surrey, BC. (2014) I grabbed the camera and set off to capture her team in action.
The photos will follow her path through to this season.
Her father has developed a company which follows this theme and is set up for sports for all.

As Sportswave’s Steve Erickson always quotes,
“If You Don’t Play Sport – At Least Br One.”
