Sport Heroes Announced

It’s always great to see individuals to get proper recognition by the town in which they live and give back to.
This week marks the “giving” to the community of Salmon Arm, a small town in the Interior of BC that get the recognition.
Sport BC will honour 4 dedicated sport leaders from the City of Salmon Arm on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 with the Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Encana.
The public award ceremony, hosted at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Salmon Arm, celebrates the contributions of long-time community sport volunteers.
Mayor Marty Bootsma will be in attendance to present the winners with their awards and a gift from the Community Sport Heroes Awards’ official apparel provider, FIRSTAR Sports Inc.
“The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport,” said Tim Gayda, President and CEO ofSportBC. “Sport is crucial to the development of strong, healthy communities, and community volunteers, like the four scheduled to be honoured, are essential to that success.”
The following individuals are the outstanding volunteers who were selected by their peers to receive the 2011 Sport BC Community Sport Hero Awards in Salmon Arm:
  • Cathy Lipsett, Ringette
  • Eric Walters, Soccer
  • Cheryl Johnson, Equestrian
  • Phil Wallensteen, Skiing
The public is invited to help celebrate these individuals at the ceremony beginning at 6:00 pm. Salmon Arm is the eighth stop for the Community Sport Hero Awards in 2011.
The Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Encana honour outstanding sport volunteers in communities across British Columbia.
The awards recognize coaches, officials, mentors and administrators who have dedicated themselves to grow and develop amateur sport at the community level.
The dedication of these individuals has allowed athletes and communities to grow and shape sport in British Columbia and inspire others to become involved in sport.
