Sochi Pucks

Published on

The pucks for February’s Olympic hockey tournament in Sochi were unveiled Saturday with a range of designs and a riot of color.

With legendary Soviet goaltender Vladislav Tretiak on hand for the grand unveiling, the pucks were shown off as Sochi’s main Olympic hockey arena hosted the final pre-Games test event.

“You have to make friends with the pucks – it’s the main piece of equipment for hockey,” Tretiak said. “They’re very beautiful pucks with our national ornamentation.”

The Olympic pucks have a colourful central disk of purple, light blue or dark blue, emblazoned with the Sochi 2014 logo and fragments of the Games’ patchwork-quilt emblem, a design echoing traditional Russian clothing.

The reverse of the pucks have classic white etching on the center of the puck, with the Olympic rings and the inscription: “XXII Olympic Winter Games – Sochi 2014.”
