Semi Sends Four Alumni Players

Published on

The Delta Islanders Junior A Lacrosse team is headed to the 2016 Minto Cup in Langley, which for them is a first for the organization.

The four players (members) are listed below and have had exceptional careers to date with the future looking brighter than ever for all four.

  • Brett Andersen – Semi 2011 – Defence
  • Spencer Bromley – Semi 2011 – Offence/Assistant Captain
  • Connor Davidson – Semi 2011 – Transition
  • Tre LeClaire – Semi 2014 – Offence

The above four Alumnus at one point and time did call Semi home and are the first White Rock players to be participating in a Minto Cup.

The team beat out the New Westminster Salmonbellies in a 7 game series going 4-2 and wrapping up the series in six games, allowing rest time for the players prior to the final series against Coquitlam.

Since the Province of BC plays host to the 2016 Minto Cup with all games played at the Langley Events Centre the host Province gets 2 berths into the tournament.

Delta as well as the Coquitlam Adanacs  will be in the final and ironically both are in the BC final (best of 3) which kicks off in Coquitlam.

Brett, Connor and Spencer have played together as teammates for 11 years starting in first year peewee!

They made a pact to stay together after minor and followed their U19 field coach, Mr. Greg Rennie to the Int. A Richmond Roadrunners where they won Provincial Silver in only their second year.

Next step was to the Delta Jr A islanders where Rennie was the Head Coach and where they won silver (2015) with sights set on winning Gold this year.

During this time they were free agents as this was during the 2 years where no midget draft existed.

They could have gone to any junior club and had numerous requests…however they wished to follow Greg and remain teammates until the end.

Tre was aged up to Delta Jr. A right out of minor and by passed intermediate all together.

Semiahmoo Minor Lacrosse is proud of its alumnus and are behind them all the way!

If you are interested in going to watch our former Rock members on the road to the Minto Cup, the schedule is as follows:

  • Delta Islanders vs. Coquitlam Adanacs Wed Aug 3 7:30 PM Coquitlam Sports Centre
  • Coquitlam Adanacs vs. Delta Islanders Sun Aug 7 5:00 PM Sungod Arena
  • Delta Islanders vs. Coquitlam Adanacs Tue Aug 9 7:30 PM Coquitlam Sports Centre (if necessary)

After that, the dates for the Minto Cup are August 20th to 29th.

In recent conversation with the Owners of the Nordel Barber Shop they are looking forward to catching some of the action of the 2016 Minto Cup and wishing the Delta Islanders all the best in their quest for the Championship.
