The hockey world is trending over the past 24 hours with the resurgence of Edmonton native and NHL MVP John Scott who was truly the MVP of the All-Star game and NOT the NHL.
Scott currently plays for the St. John’s Ice Caps of the AHL following a huge mistreatment by the NHL, this according to numerous fans.
Following a fan campaign where fans were able to submit names for the All-Star Game,he (John Scott) was the clear winner and the captain for the team representing the Pacific Division of the Western Conference.
Regardless of the fact that he only recorded 1 point in 11 games due to the fact he was a healthy scratch by the Coyotes, remembering that he has only 5 goals in his entire career.
This has been compared to the Rory Fitzpatrick’s All-Star campaign in 2007, where fans vote for a player who would not normally be chosen to play.
Now this is where Hollywood could get involved and make a best seller, so follow the bouncing ball.
Scott was traded/dealt to Montreal, then they sent him to the AHL’s St. John’s Ice Caps.
Analyst for TSN Bob McKenzie reported that the NHL and the Coyotes had requested that Scott remove himself from the All-Star team, but he refused to do so.
Following the trade, Arizona GM Don Maloney stated the trade was a business move, and clearly not an attempt at keeping him (Scott) out of the All-Star Game.
Speculation surfaced that he was potentially to be ruled ineligible to be on the All-Star team not only because of his move to an AHL roster, but his move to a team in the Atlantic division.
The clear winner in this contest was not the NHL, but rather the fan’s and the players hopefully in a manner in which the NHL should understand the game won’t go on without the players.
As for Scott, while he plays a tough game, he is clearly the fan favorite and took the hockey world by storm – fan or not!
It is reported that he will head back to play in the AHL, but given the recent fall from grace by the Montreal Canadians, does one not have to ask, why they don’t play him?
Scott’s wife, Danielle, is pregnant with twins due within the next two weeks, where they are planning on heading to Michigan during the AHL All-Star break.
She stated “this has been overwhelming for us and I jumped up when he scored his second goal, holding my two kids, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God. I better stop and relax – We’d like to have the babies at home.”
Florida forward and senior statesman of the league Jaromir Jagr and captain of the Atlantic Division played in his 10th All-Star Game and helped the Atlantic beat the Metropolitan 4-3.
Great game, but more so for John Scott and Family. Now only if the NHL were as likeable as he is? Just thinking??
Just thinking – couldn’t the Canucks use a guy like him!!
