Ronning Sends Bears Flying

Published on

Each season it’s what the fans look forward to and in part this is what makes this event such a huge success for the Giants players and those attending as well.

It’s sort of a wait and see event and given the first goal is when things happen, but wait a minute – what would happen if the first goal was disallowed?

True most of the “Teddy Bears” would be in space sent flying from the rafters, but one has to think at that time, they would just continue with “toss” leaving the game officials and whoever scored the goal to “eat crow”.

Last night’s first goal by the Giants wasn’t one that would reflect this but was a good goal scored by Ty Ronning, the son of former Canuck and NHLer Cliff Ronning.

While this was scored by Ronning the other marker was off the stick of Chase Lang, while Richmond’s Trevor Cox had two assists.

Albeit a good goal the Giants managed to drop a 3-2 decision to the Everett Silvertips in overtime, but for the most part the fans went home happy.

The Silvertips opened the scoring early in the first when Connor Dewar from close in, but the Giants tied the game midway through with Ronning scoring his 20th goal of the season, bringing the teddies flying down.

Dawson Leedahl gave Everett lead midway through the second but Lang tied the game on the power play for the Giants in the third sending the game to O/T.

This game saw the Giants come up short as Carson Stadnyk scored on a 2-on-1 rush to ending the game at 1:38, but regardless of the score the Giants won the hearts of those on hand.

Ryan Kubic made 35 saves on 37 shots, and was named the game’s first star.

The Giants will take on the Silvertips again south of the border tomorrow night. Puck drop is at 7:05pm.

The Giants are off for the Christmas break with the next home game Sunday, December 27th at 2 pm when they again face the Silvertips for the third time in a row.
