Hosting BC, the Province of BC and viaSport have announced grant funding for the 2013 British Columbia Junior Boys’ Championship at Revelstoke G&CC and the 2013 Pacific Coast Amateur at Capilano G&CC.
Provided by the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and administered by viaSport British Columbia, the annual grant will provide both golf events in British Columbia the necessary funding for exceptional on-site fulfillment and potential for a lasting legacy.
The Junior Boys’ Championship will be hosted by the Revelstoke G&CC in Revelstoke July 2-5 to be followed later in the month by the Pacific Coast Amateur. This event will be held at the Capilano Golf & Country Club in West Vancouver July 23-26.
Both events are receiving $3,000 and $5,000 (respectively) and will use the funding to directly impact their successfulness at the local level.
“Hosting BC is a major B.C. success story. We’ve been funding sporting events in British Columbia through this program since 2004, and it’s hard to overstate the positive and lasting impact it has on individual communities,” stated Bill Bennett, Minister for Community, Sport and Cultural Development.”
Events bring thousands of visitors and leave a legacy of trained volunteers, not to mention community enthusiasm. We’re proud to invest in sport development through Hosting BC.”
The funding provided through Hosting BC helps bring more sporting events to more communities across British Columbia.
In turn, this will inspire people to be active through sport, support development of our local athletes, and create economic benefits for the host community.
“The Hosting BC grant funding that we have received truly makes a difference to the success of our events at a local level,” stated Kris Jonasson,
Executive Director of British Columbia Golf.
“With the Junior Boys’ and the prestigious Pacific Coast Amateur being supported this year, the potential for a long-term sporting legacy to be created is a very exciting prospect.
“The Pacific Coast Amateur is an invitation-only championship that travels across the pacific coast on a rotation, having previously been played at the Royal Colwood GC in Victoria, B.C. back in 2008.
The Junior Boys’ Championship features the most talented junior-aged (18 years and younger) golfers in the province battling for the coveted title.
Since 2004, Hosting BC has invested close to $4 million in sporting events in communities throughout the province, with a large flagpole displaying their flag and country pride, which builds B.C.’s reputation as a prime sport hosting destination.
