Remember David?

They came, they played – they tied! Such was the case for David Beckham and company!

Last year he was given a “Yellow Card” in a previous game, which prevented him from taking to the field for the game at Empire Field, but truth be known, I am told he simply did not like the field conditions.

Who say’s Pro’s can play through anything?

This match was the talk of the town since the start of the season and with a sell-out of 21,000 on hand – everyone was wondering if he would make an appearance. Surprise – he did?

Speculation on roof conditions was made on the night prior to the game, and given the recent weather we have seen in the area, the move paid off.

Starting “keeper” for the Whitecaps was Joe Cannon, while Sanders got the call for the Galaxy.

Beckham and company took to the field to a chant of “boos” and even the odd comment of “Olympic Reject”, which shocks me!

It’s obvious that those making remarks clearly don’t know how great of a player Beckham is. The Cap’s enter this match 4 point up on the Galaxy while both have played 20 games on the season.

A mere 10 points behind San Jose who lead the conference with 40 points while all three clubs are in the Western Conference, with the remaining games being “key” to the standings.

This past week we have seen the Caps make roster changes, which some might have questioned, but they seem (to date) to being paying off.

One such player was Davide Chiumiento (27) who was traded to Zurich in the Swiss Super league with rumors that he was home-sick.

The Whitecaps made it official and announced that they have acquired midfielder and Jamaican International Dane Richards plus allocation money from the Red Bulls in exchange for striker Sebastien Le Toux.

Richards joined his new club in Chicago, which will be a treat to have him on the field. Richards scored 8 goals in 37 international appearances for Jamaica and played 5 ½ seasons (MLS) with the Red Bulls.

The Cap’s to BC Place following a 5 game road swing which ended with back-to-back losses in Toronto and Chicago. The Galaxy managed to start their road swing with a 5-3 win at Portland and have won all three previous meetings, having outscored Vancouver 10-0, including a 3-0 win three weeks ago.

Barry Robson played his home debut and was outstanding defending against Beckham in all areas of the turf, which saw the two exchanged the odd word or two. He managed to score a header and came close to giving the Cap’s the win in the dying minutes of the match.

The signing of Robson has been a hot topic since he arrived a month ago, but took time off on holidays. Those following the Cap’s know goals from the mid-field and header goals have been far and few between all season long.

Gershon Koffie put the Cap’s up 1-nill in the 18th minute which saw the referee Silviu Petrescu play the advantage, while Camilo was taken down.

Robson put the Cap’s up 2-nill in the 27th minute, when he placed a header past Saunders coming off a Young-Pyo Lee cross from the right.

Beckham played exciting soccer and like him or not, he made his presence known to everyone at BC Place on this hot July night.

Once the game was over he was gracious to the media, answering questions in a timely manner, which happened to be a shortened version of other players.
