This past week Sportswave traveled to Chilliwack and covered the U18 Telus Cup Championship with the event played at the Chilliwack Coliseum which is home for the Chilliwack Chiefs who play in the BCHL.
Overall the hockey was exceptional and was filled with extremely talented players many of which will one day be playing in the NHL after being selected in an upcoming NHL Entry Draft.
While the hockey was exceptional to watch personally we were disappointed with the overall attendance as well as the lack of media coverage from local media.
Special “Thanks” to all the officials selected to work the Championship and when it was over both official supervisors, Ron Dietterle and Josh Smith were presented with signed Canada Telus Cup Jersey’s which were all signed by all 14 officials.

Not sure why the local media wouldn’t cover the National Championship event as we know it won’t return for possibly a while, which is sad and just maybe it should have been played in Langley area.
Naturally this would all depend on the availability at the facility and such but at least they might draw more fans to take in the Canadian Championship, but we’ll really never know.
The final game featured defeating the Chevaliers de Lévis taking on the Regina Pat Canadians who went on to win their fifth TELUS Cup in O/T by a 3-2 score in the Gold Medal game.
The game was the seventh medal for the Pat Canadians at the TELUS Cup going along with their Gold Medals in 1983, 1988, 1994 and 1999, Silver in 1989 and Bronze in 2015.

The five national title Championship wins ties Regina with the Notre Dame Hounds and Blizzard du Séminaire Saint-François for the most in tournament history.
Regina’s Maddox Schultz scored the O/T 3 on 3 winner a short 28 seconds in who managed to assist on Regina’s other two goals.
The TELUS Cup Most Valuable Player registered a point in all seven games and finished with a tournament-high 20 points (9-11—20), leading all players in goals and assists.
In the post game interview which took an extended period of time to wait for he mentioned “Right from the start of the year, our goal was to make it to the TELUS Cup. As soon as we got here our plan was to win it, so it is all super surreal right now.”
He continued “We played a full 60 minutes, so going into the locker room we knew someone had to be the hero and this was an absolutely crazy experience, seeing the puck go in the net, seeing the referee call the goal, it is something I will never forget. I am looking forward to enjoying it with my teammates.”
Regina opened the scoring with a PP goal from Jonah Siverston late in the first only before Lévis forward Malyk Coté pulled them even over a minute later.
Quebec’s Félix Grenier gave the Chevaliers the go ahead goal early in the second but Regina Captain Logan Mehl tied the game at two with 1:09 left in the second.
Pat Canadians head coach Ryan Hodgins told the media “It is an amazing feeling, special. [Going into overtime], I told the guys to seize the moment, embrace it and do everything we have worked on all season long.”
He continued “Watching the puck go in the net [in overtime] was crazy. My coaches were right beside me to celebrate and I have a special group of friends that are also coaches that have put in the work and time to make this happen.”
Regina’s Taylor Tabashniuk made 29 saves for his fifth win in as many games, finishing with a 1.20 GAA and .951 SV% in the tournament.
In between the medal games, Hockey Canada announced the 2025 TELUS Cup tournament awards:
