Paul Mullen Appointed New BC Soccer Executive Director
The Executive Director position was vacated after Bjorn Osieck stepped down in September.
The Board of Directors took the opportunity to merge the Director of Operations and Executive Director roles, eliminating overlapping responsibilities and providing a clear single voice and direction for BC soccer operations going forward.
Reporting directly to President Roger Barnes and the BC Soccer Board, Mullen will be responsible for leading the organization on behalf of our Board and membership, deliver on its strategic plan and continue to develop relationships with key stakeholders in order to grow the game of soccer in BC.
Mullen, who is also a member of the Canadian Soccer Association Professional Soccer Committee, joined BC Soccer in January 2011 after 10 years of service with England’s Football Association. During that time, he was The FA’s Senior Business Support Manager for three years after acting as the Head of Governance Projects between 2004 and 2008, a role which also included a period as FA Disciplinary Manager.
He joined The FA in 2001 as Head of Brand Management with responsibility for delivering The FA’s commercial partners’ and suppliers’ contractual rights.
He also previously worked for global sports consultancy Octagon where he managed sponsorship delivery teams with responsibility for delivering commercial partners contractual rights at major sporting events and stadiums.
Mullen is also a former youth and reserve team player for English professional soccer club Sheffield Wednesday and has been an active volunteer soccer administrator for many years during his time in England.
He holds a diploma in Business and Finance from Thames Valley University in England, a Certificate in Sports Marketing from New York University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Kjeld Brodsgaard, First Vice President BC Soccer and Chair of the recruitment sub-committee stated, “The quality of the candidates we met with was very strong and we are pleased to appoint Paul, as we feel he has the most experience and knowledge in all aspects of the game.”
