Pan-Am Track Champsionships

For those living on the west coast, especially in the Vancouver area we ride/cycle all year long, regardless of our weather conditions.

Given the fact that Vancouver has built numerous lanes for cyclists it’s an easy task to get around as long as you avoid the cars/pedestrians in the area.

Now Cycling Canada makes it official and announces that twelve (12) Athletes are represent Canada at the Pan Am Track Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico from October 4th to 9th.

This is the continental championships, and valuable points for nation rankings will be awarded that count towards world championships participation. Canada will be sending a team primarily of development riders, to give them the experience of international competition.

The team includes two of Canada’s International medal-winning Athletes, one that will see Coquitlam’s the two-time Olympic bronze Jasmin Glaesser and Bronze medal winning 2015 Pan Am Games team member from Queensville Ontario Ed Veal take part. The team consists of five (5) Men in the Endurance events, four (4) Endurance Women as well as three (3) Sprint men.

These include the Junior world champion Stefan Ritter (Edmonton), who has moved up to the elite category.

The women’s Sprint squad is regrouping after a successful quadrennial that secured two spots in the Riomexico-cycling Olympic Games, and will not be participating at the continental event.

They have already attained the necessary points to qualify for world championships. Jacques Landry, Director of High Performance at Cycling Canada stated “Because it is the end of the [Olympic] quad, we are refocusing on building our talent pool and we will be using the Pan Am Championships as a runway to get our programs ramping up again.

He continued “We are looking at some development riders coming in and getting more experience on the boards.  The Pan Am Championships are a perfect opportunity for that.”
