The Indian football team was officially eliminated from the 2022 World Cup qualifying following a 0-1 match loss to Oman in Muscat played at the Sultan Quboos Sports Complex Stadium.

Mohsin Al Ghassani scored the lone goal in the 33rd minute handing a defeat to India for the second time in the campaign that saw Oman previously defeat India (2-1) in September in the first leg in Guwahati.

The opening match against Oman saw Igor Stimac shock ever many sports fanatics having Ashique Kuruniyan lead the line while Sunil Chhetri fell back becoming the link between midfield and the attack formation.

Ashique was able to get behind the “D” which created problems for Oman allowing India to take the lead off a free-kick won by Ashique which was one of many runs.

Since the match was played Guwahati, he has been used at various spots by Carlos Cuadrat at Bengaluru FC but several defenders were out of the line-up due to injuries.

He started in five friendlies and five World Cup qualifiers but the defence looks concerning with a lackluster offense that saw India score three goals from set-pieces in five complete matches.

Sunil Chhetri (Striker) was “key” for the second game with the midfield and attack not having a finish while Manvir Singh has proved to be an effective target man bringing other attackers into play but doesn’t instill confidence when it comes to finding the back of the net.

Injuries cost India as they managed two injuries early in the first half that saw Pranoy Halder replaced (28th minute) after picking up a Yellow card which only added to his shoulder injury earlier in the match.
