Mayors and vice-mayors of all Olympic Villages Elena Isinbaeva, Svetlana Zhurova, Aleksey Nemov, Maksim Chudov and President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko welcomed athletes and guests.
The philosophy and design of each village is unique and is different in both style and colour and each village is designed to look completely different and will be decorated with souvenirs, crafts, icons, and architectural art objects that will become part of the 2014 Games in Sochi and it’s legacy.
The streets in the Olympic villages will bear the names of famous Olympic and Paralympic champions of Russia and the USSR and each village has something for everyone, from celebrations to performances to concerts and master classes, all demonstrating Russian hospitality and it’s splendour.
Residents all the Olympic Village will have access to a canteen, a clinic, fitness center, multi-religious center, library, bank, cafes, a club and shops and all located within walking distance from the residential area.
Transport connections will be available within the village and from the village to the competition venues, 24 hours a day with security being extremely tight at all venues, including the Athlete’s Village.
Each village at the Games in Sochi is unique, but they are closely related to each other within a single concept.
Usadba Coastal Village
The Coastal Village consists of 47 buildings and covers an area of 72 hectares on the shores of the Black Sea in Imeretinskaya Valley.
During the Olympic Winter Games, athletes competing in the following sports will be residing at the Usadba Coastal Village: ice hockey, curling, figure skating, speed skating and short track.
The Coastal Olympic village is a place where generations of tradition meet with the best technologies of the modern world. Here, the past and present are intertwined.
The organizers of the games decided to show the path from the renaissance of Russia to the palace era and to the present day and the concept of the Coastal Village reflects what Russia can rightly be proud of: classic arts (music, ballet), literature, art, science and space.
Mountain Village
The Mountain Olympic village is ready to receive almost 3,000 athletes and delegation members and is located in the Mountain Village is the International Zone, where athletes will be able to meet with the media, dignitaries and visitors.
During the Olympic Winter Games, athletes will be staying here who perform in the following sports: skiing, bobsleigh, freestyle skiing, luge, Nordic combined, skeleton, ski jumping and snowboarding.

The largest of the three villages gives guests a taste of Russian hospitality. Here, crafts, handicrafts, national amusements and legends are passed from hand to hand and mouth to mouth.
Tradition includes food, games, entertainment, sayings, beliefs, arts and crafts .
Sloboda Endurance Village
The Endurance Olympic Village is situated within easy reach (500-800 meters) of the cross-country ski and biathlon center which will mean that those competing in these events will be staying at accommodation located at the same height as the venues.
The Endurance Village has accommodation for 1,100 athletes participating in sports such as cross-country skiing and biathlon, as well as delegation members.
Located in the unique beauty of mountainous terrain, Endurance Village is reminiscent of Russian folk tales.
If you have not yet seen or watched the “fairy-tale like” characters, such as Baba Yaga, Firebird, Ilya Muromets, Sadko, Ivan the Fool and the Gray Wolf, can reveal a lot about Russia culture.
In particularly the character of Russian people, their humor, morals and values and they have gone to great detail to put forth great video’s of these characters. If nothing else have a look. http://talisman.sochi2014.com/en/
Every village has an Olympic mascot as its host and is very impressive.
The Polar Bear is the host of the Coastal Village, the Leopard is the host of the Mountain Village and the Hare is the kind, cheerful hostess of the Endurance Village.
The hosts are very close to the style of their villages.
Hare loves fairy tales, Leopard appreciates Russian tradition, and Polar Bear is interested in history and modern technology.
