OLYMPIC COACH FIRED

While Canada can bask in the glory of winning the Gold Medal at the Sochi Olympic, with an impressive Coaching staff led by GM Steve Yzerman, Russia is searching for a Coach.

The Russia Ice Hockey Federation announced that Head Coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is leaving following the team’s disappointing quarterfinals exit at the Sochi Olympics.

The International Ice Hockey Federation indicates that Russia is looking for a new Head Coach prior to the start world championships in Belarus that start in May.

The IIHF says Russian Hockey Federation officials agreed to Bilyaletdinov’s departure following an in-depth meeting with him on Wednesday.

Russia lost 3-1 to Finland to miss out on an Olympic medal which was among the nation’s top priorities at the Sochi Games.

Bilyaletdinov was appointed in June 2011 and led the team to be world champions the following year.

He has won a Gold Medal as a player at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics and silver in 1980 at Lake Placid, so his reputation is intact as a player, just not as a Coach.
