Noemie Thomas Grabs Silver

Published on

Richmond’s Noemie Thomas (18) ended the third and final stop on the Mare Nostrum swimming tour managing to grab Silver in the women’s 50-m butterfly event.

Denmark’s Jeanette Ottesen capped her domination (25.27) on the tour, just ahead of Thomas (26.33) and Svetlana Chimrova of Russia (26.38).

Thomas told the media ‘’It was kind of a struggle today and we are in the midst of some hard training and to combine that with competitions has taken its toll on everyone.’’
Thomas tried to forget about her aches and pains for her race on Sunday.

‘’The 50 fly is more mental than physical, you just have to be on,’’ she said. ‘’It was great to have these opportunities to race Jeanette who really blew everyone away here.  It’s an awesome international experience and very motivating.’’

Thomas was also eighth in the 200-m butterfly on Sunday.

Canada fielded a six-member (6) squad for the annual European tour and the other Canadians competing were: Jeremy Bagshaw and Keegan Zanatta (Victoria) Stefan Milosevic and Luke Peddie (Vancouver) and Montreal’s Ariane Mainville.

Thomas was in the hunt looking to grab Bronze in the 100-m Saturday and took fifth in 58.98 which was 0.01 seconds faster than her time earlier in the week that earned her a Silver medal at the second stop in Canet-en-Rousillon, France.

Canada’s other finalist Saturday was Jeremy Bagshaw, who took eighth spot in his second finals appearance this week.
