While our Olympic Athlete’s are doing as best they can; some finished early, some felt rejected and others felt cheated!
They performed extremely well and as Canadian’s we should be extremely proud of what they have achieved.
I received the following from Nikola on her journey and it’s an interesting read.
Congratulations to her on all she has achieved.
Hello Everyone!
Well, I’m back on email after an incredibly hard last 2 weeks and just wanted to give you a quick update of how my Olympics ended up: 10th!!!
Regardless of outcome, the Olympic Games are an emotional roller coaster for everyone.
I just stepped off mine the other day and am now trying to come to terms with everything and move forward.
Although I have achieved something incredible, I do not feel it – at least not yet. I am proud to have placed 10th yet disappointed in my outcome.
I can say with confidence that I “100% showed up” at the Games.
I did had equipment issues that were beyond my control (provided equipment) – and that makes it heart breaking for me… and although I was not alone in these issues, as each race passed, my Olympic dreams and goals slid away from me like nails on a chalkboard.
However I walk away with my head held high, knowing I gave it my all and that I executed my plan and processes extremely well, all the stuff that was in my control.
The 6 time Olympian & 5 time Olympic Medalist from Italy finished 9th… so 10th isn’t so bad if you look at it that way.
I may not have walked away with a medal this time, but know that my dedication and perseverance makes me a champion of my own and I was extremely proud to represent Canada as part of an amazing Canadian Olympic Team, better yet… an amazing Sailing Team.
It has been an incredible journey and I want to thank you all for being apart of it. I still need some days to reflect on everything…and I want to go explore all what the Olympic Village in London has to offer…so not spending time on my laptop.
Watched the Men’s beach volleyball finals last night, I’m off to see some of the track finals tonight (4X100) and trying to soak as much up as I can of the Olympic experience.
I will write a proper update and send lots of pictures soon.
Yours in sailing,
Nikola
