New Sport – Develops The Youth

The sport is huge in Europe and is catching on fast in BC, with the youth enjoying it cause it’s fun and not too hard on the parents pocket book.

It’s a sport with unique sticks, rule changes that will take time to get used to and a sport where the Parent’s don’t really have to worry about players getting body checked, but injuries will and can happen.

With this new partnership, Minor Hockey Coaches, Ball Hockey Coaches and Referees will get certified as Floorball coaches through the Floorball Academy.

Each Player, Referee, Volunteer, Parent and Sponsor will also take a Floorball Academy Membership Course.

League Owner, Rick Duchesne has been working on the implementation of Floorball after researching the benefits of Floorball for Hockey Players Skill development.

Here are his comments… “Floorball is completely in line with BC Hockey and Hockey Canada and the CS4L|LTAD model.  Our number one goal is developing young athletes and strong hockey players, but we also have a responsibility to build life skills across our league so that we do our part in raising happy, healthy, successful kids.

We can do that, all while having a ton of fun, playing this new hybrid form of hockey.  Floorball is about speed, skill, finesse and fair play.

The amazing things that you can do with a stick and a ball in Floorball, along with the support from Semiahmoo Minor Hockey led us to embrace Floorball Hockey.

We will hold some workshops, clinics and demos for our existing players, coaches and parents to learn all about this fresh new Olympic approved Sport, during February and March and the first ball drop will be on April 6th. We are really excited to be a leader in this, working closely with BC Floorball.”

Greg Beaudin, who heads up the development work for BC Floorball and The Floorball Academy says “over the past five years or so, we have put a lot of energy in to working with minor hockey associations and Hockey Canada Skills Academies across BC.

North Van Minor, Vancouver Thunderbirds, Squamish, Whistler, North Shore Winter Club, Burnaby Winter Club, Hollyburn Country Club, SeaFair, Prep-Camp,

The Richmond Oval, and many other leading hockey organizations and schools have rolled out Floorball training.  Floorball Hockey is a great cross training sport that promotes a lighter, faster game.

It is one of the most inexpensive sports in the world and presents families with a safe and healthy activity that doesn’t require a big lifestyle change.

We make it easy on families to get involved with a game that promotes skill development and life-skills.

We will work with Rick and Semiahmoo Minor Hockey to make this league thrive!”
