Monica Houweling Wins Bronze

BC and Quebec Young Rider Dressage Team won “Silver” in the FEI Young Rider Team Competition on Wednesday, July 27 at the 2011 Adequan FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships.

Sarah Loewen and Monica Houweling earned the Individual silver and bronze medals respectively which are being held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.

Scoring 197.027, the BC/Quebec silver medal team, comprised of Mathilde Blais Tetreault of Montreal Emily Fownes of Montreal, QC, Esmee Ingham of West Vancouver and Anne-Mylaine Messier, St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu were just 1.077 points off the gold medal score of 198.104 posted by USA Region 5.

The USA Region 8 Team took bronze with a score of 196.132 and USA Region 7 earned fourth, scoring 194.710.

The Ontario Young Rider Dressage Team, comprised of Bronwyn Barlow Cash of Brantford, Alexandra Dvorak of Hillsburgh, ON, and Megan Lane of Collingwood finished in fifth place with 193.184.

In the Junior Rider Division, Team Canada-West Junior Rider Dressage Team finished in fourth place.

Dalyce Gagnon of Cochrane, AB, Monica Houweling of Delta, BC, Megan Overwater of Rocky Mountain House, AB, and Monika Zillinger of Armstrong, BC finished with a team score of 193.460. Winning the team gold medal was USA Region 1 with a score of 199.189.
The competition finished July 28 with the Individual Test for both divisions. In the Junior Individual class, Loewen of Winnipeg, MB, won the silver medal with a score of 67.079% riding her horse Ricardo, a 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding.

Delta’s Monica Houweling won Bronze with a score of 66.605%, aboard Stentano, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Monica and Linda Houweling,

In the Young Rider Individual test, Lane was the top placed Canadian rider, riding her own 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, Caravella, earning 66.079% for fourth place.

Right behind Lane, in fifth spot, was Blais Tetreault riding her 13-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding, Michelango, with a score of 65.842% The Freestyle tests for both the Juniors and Young Riders will occur on July 30.

Exclusively for Junior Riders, aged 14–18, and Young Riders, 16–21, the NAJYRC gives up and coming riders the opportunity to experience representing their country as a team, and prepares them for future international competition.
