Minister of State/Sport Remarks

As Minister of State (Sport), I am pleased to congratulate triathlon athletes Simon Whitfield, Kyle Jones, Brent McMahon, Paula Findlay and Kathy Tremblay, who were nominated to the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team.
As the largest single contributor to sport in this country, our Government is proud to support sport participation and excellence from playground to podium. Canada is a top sport nation, and I, along with all Canadians, recognize the hard work and dedication of our athletes as they train toward this prestigious milestone in their sport careers.
I wish all the best to our Canadian Olympic Team athletes as they prepare for the Games.
I would also like to thank the coaches, family, and officials who support and encourage the athletes who will proudly represent our country.
The 2012 inductees into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame: Freestyle skier Jean-Luc Brassard, freestyle wrestler Daniel Igali, cross-country skier Beckie Scott, coach Julie Sauvé, and the late Sarah Burke in the builder category.
