Meatball Monday!!
The next time your parents get upset with you about playing in the mud, if you are quick witted let them know that you were thinking of trying out for the Mud Olympics.
In the local language in Germany it’s called Wattolympiade and is an annual event held in mud flats along the banks of the Elbe River in Brunsbüttel.
This is located near Hamburg, Germany and yearly competitions along the river date back to 1978.
In today’s world the competition is held along with a series of rock concerts for local bands on the same weekend.
The event is called “Mudstock” and raises money for a worthwhile event called the Schleswig-Holstein Cancer Society.
The events include mud versions of some traditional sports such as soccer, volleyball and handball, in addition to the mud specific events like the mud-eel race and the long-distance rubber boot toss events.
Most sporting competitions have a motto and the one that is tagged for this one is faster, higher and muddier!
For those who have asked, there is not an event called mud wrestling, but if you want to get dirty – this event’s for you!!!
