Langley Christian Shocks Everyone

For most of us, playing volleyball is something we do during the summer months, but for those attending a school, it’s a sport that is played during the first half of the semester.

Some excel, others perceive and others simply have a hard time competing in part due to the numbers that don’t want to play, all for various reasons.

One such school that shocked many capping the season off with a perfect record (52-0) was the Langley Christian Lightning did this past season.

The Lightning finished the season by winning the first junior boys provincial volleyball banner in school history.

The dominated all competition and went  7-0 this past week in Kelowna, without dropping a set for the entire event.

Head Coach Carol Hofer told the media “Maybe it will hit them (the players) when they are older, but it hit me just how special this season was because you don’t often get an opportunity to have that kind of success.”

The Lightning managed to glide through pool-play defeating College Heights, Claremont and Kelowna Christian by identical overall 2-0 scores.

Only once did they even allow the opposition to reach 20 points in those six sets, and during the other five they never got passed 16.

The success continued in the playoff round, defeating George Elliot 2-0 (25-15,25-14), Okanagan Mission 2-0 (25-22,25-16) and Abbotsford Christian 2-0 (25-10,25-16).

In the end it came down to a showdown playing Richmond Christian in the finals, where all on-lookers saw the Lightning wi in straight sets, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-15.

Brodie Hofer  played on the Left-side as a hitter (coach’s son) was named MVP while middle Jeremiah Macadam and setter Mattias Dahl were all-stars.

The coach said the team had several other worthy all-star candidates as well.

Hofer stated that heading into provincials the goal of the team was not be out-worked by anyone, as well as focusing on their defence.”

Congrats to Langley Christian on the win!!!

The Mission of the School is to educate students, equipping them to discover their gifts, develop Christ-like discernment, and seek their life’s calling.
