Lacrosse Canada Staff for 2024 Men’s World Box Championship

With lacrosse fast approaching and many hitting the outdoor boxes to get an early start we wanted to share the following about the upcoming championships which we are posting in a two part article.

Lacrosse Canada is pleased to announce our coaching staff for the 2024 Men’s World Box Lacrosse Championship. 

The World Championship will be held September 20-29, 2024, in Utica, New York, United States. The 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships will mark the sixth time this championship tournament has been held. 

This will be the first time the competition is held in 5 years, as the tournament was forced to be pushed back a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Team Canada looks to defend their title from the last championship in 2019, which was held on home soil in Langley, British Columbia. 

It was a highly anticipated game but Canada was able to overcome a strong Haudenosaunee team in 2019 by a score of 19-12, continuing their dominant run in the World Box Lacrosse Championships. 

Canada has finished all 5 of the previous championships by winning the gold medal. Dating all the way back to 2003, 

Canada has defeated the Haudenosaunee in the gold medal game each year in hard fought games. Canada once again will expect strong competition from teams like the Haudenosaunee, USA, England, and more. 

With the games being less than a year away now, we are excited to announce the group that will be leading the way for the team next summer. 

The staff includes individuals with prolific playing careers, along with many years of experience coaching international lacrosse, as well as at the pro level in the National Lacrosse League. The staff is as follows:

General Manager: Eddie Comeau 

Ed Comeau has spent 21 years coaching in the NLL, which is highlighted by six Champion’s Cup titles, most recently with the Swarm in 2017. 

After leading the Swarm to a league-best 13-5 regular season record in 2017, Comeau was named the recipient of the prestigious Les Bartley Award, which recognizes the NLL’s Head Coach of the Year.  

Comeau was also the General Manager of Team Canada’s men’s indoor team for the 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in Langley. 

He served as the head coach of Team Canada’s indoor team that won the Gold Medal at the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Syracuse, N.Y. 

He also served as an assistant coach on the 1994 Men’s field team, along with 2006 and 2014 men’s National team. 

Eddie was named the inaugural GM for the Men’s sixes program in 2022, where he was able to capture the gold medal with Team Canada in Birmingham, Alabama.

Team Coordinator: Sean Ferris

Sean Ferris has worked in the NLL for nearly two decades, which includes time with the Toronto Rock, Rochester Knighthawks, New York/Orlando Titans and the Colorado Mammoth. 

As one of the assistants in Rochester in 2007, Ferris helped lead the Knighthawks to the Champion’s Cup title. 

In total, the Burlington, Ontario native has spent 16 seasons as an assistant coach in the NLL and was the head scout of the Toronto Rock (1999-2004) for six seasons, where he was a member of four Champions Cup titles. 

Ferris most recently won the Champion’s Cup in 2017 alongside Comeau, totalling six throughout his career.

Head Coach: Glenn Clark

Head Coach Glenn Clark brings over two decades of NLL experience as both a player and a coach with him to the Team Canada bench. 

He began his professional box lacrosse career in 1998 when he was drafted by the Ontario Raiders. One year later, the team moved to Toronto and became the Toronto Rock.

Clark spent the majority of his playing career in Toronto, helping lead the Rock to five NLL championships. After the 2005 season, 

Clark signed with the Philadelphia Wings where he was named to the All-Star team for the third time in his career.

Clark wasted no time transitioning into coaching as he was named head coach of the Toronto Rock following the 2006 season. 

The Rock reached the playoffs before being defeated by the eventual champion, Rochester Knighthawks. Clark was at the helm of the Rock until the team’s 2009 season.

Following his coaching stint in Toronto, Clark spent the next five years coaching at various levels including minors, Junior A Lacrosse, and the Canadian National Team. 

Clark returned to the NLL in 2015, being named head coach of the New England Black Wolves. In just his first season with the Black Wolves, Clark led the team to a six win improvement from the season prior, and won a playoff game.

During his five seasons as head coach of the Black Wolves, the team successfully made the playoffs in each of them.
