Kyle Pettey 6th At Paralympic Games

Canada’s best track and field finish on day five of action at the Paralympic Games came from Kyle Pettey (Brampton) in the men’s F34 classification shot put final.

Pettey placed sixth with a seasonal best of 11.41-metres.

Morocco’s Azeddine Nouiri took gold with a world record throw of 13.10-metres. “I feel pretty good, five guys beat the world record and I registered my second best throw ever so I’m pretty happy.”

Josh Cassidy(Ottawa) finished tenth in the men’s T54 classification wheelchair 1500-metres. Cassidy crossed the line in 3:14.70. “I’m still not where I want to be and obviously not happy.” He adds, “I’m still not where I need to be but I want to get there.” Cassidy’s next event at the Paralympic Games is the T54 wheelchair 800-metres.

In the women’s T54 wheelchair 800-metres Diane Roy of Sherbrook, Que., stopped the clock in 1:55.95 finishing third in her heat and advancing to tomorrow’s final. Kiera-Lyn Frie of Saskatoon, Sask., was fourth in 1:57.23 but did not advance to the final.

Brent Lakatos (Dorval) will compete in his third final of the 2012 Paralympic Games tomorrow evening after qualifying for the T54 wheelchair 800-metres final. Lakatos was third in his heat in a personal best of 1:42.22.

In the men’s T34 classification 200-metres Nathan DeWitt (Surrey) placed sixth in his heat in 31.30 seconds, he will not advance to the final.

DeWitt’s first Paralympics Games are not over, he’ll turn to the 100-metres on Saturday September 8.
