Kids Act Better

Given all the antics we have seen in this season’s playoffs, not to take away from the stellar play of some, it’s time for some who ‘big money” to grow up and act like pro players.

We all heard about the conversation that Donald Sterling was involved with and how racist his remarks were, let alone showing an extreme lack of respect for his team, the players, his Family and the NBA.

Wrong – Wrong in so many way’s and it was actually great to see Commissioner Adam Silver deal with him in a harsh manner, which was the way he deserved to be treated.

Then we look at the NHL and the manner in which they dish out the fines to the millionaire players, who also act in a racist manner to one of there own.

Case in point is the manner in which Bruin’s forward Shawn Thornton 2 series lead.

Clearly the NHL shows an extreme lack of any discipline considering what Thornton was fined, which apparently is the maximum allowed by NHL standards.

If one of these actions were subject to a fine and not the other, the league would look as bush as it does regarding some of the discipline it hands out.

Thornton was fined and again – no penalty was called on the play by either official and to top it off no one saw it, but thank heaven for the cameras in the rink.

Next case involves the stellar play of one who acts like a baby and also dumps water on Sidney Crosby, who at times is his own worst enemy simply by all his complaining to the officials.

You’re playing a mans sport, getting paid top dollar, for a season that is shot and one in which several other thousand players would love to play and be in your shoes.

Henrik Lundqvist was fined $5,000 by the NHL on Monday for unsportsmanlike conduct despite the earlier report that he would not face any discipline for his stupidity.

The discrepancy or difference in fines handed out by the NHL is directly related to their salaries and since Lundqvist makes more than Thornton, he gets the max fine of $5,000 while Thornton’s fine of $2,820.52, which was the most he could be fined based on his salary.

Fines to today’s players simply mean nothing and given a world where several go without food, water and are in dire straights, maybe the NHL should look at being far more harsh on the glamor boys that play a kids game.
