Kelowna/Aldergrove Host Youth Provincial Soccer

The level of competition along with exceptional weather was hot as the BC Soccer Youth Provincial B Cup Championships took place in both Aldergrove and Kelowna.

Ninety six (96) boys and girls teams fought hard and after four days of competitions, Provincial B Cup Champions from clubs across the province scored victories.

This year’s Youth Provincial B Cup was split between two separate championships, both taking place this past weekend with Aldergrove Youth Soccer Club hosting the boys championship and Central Okanagan Youth Soccer Association (COYSA) hosting the girls event in Kelowna.

Both the boys and girls championships were 8 team round robins with single elimination knockout matches for the first (1st) and second (2nd) place finishers in their respective age groups.

Teams from the length and breadth of the province took part, from Bulkley Valley to Tsawwassen and from Nelson to Comox.

“Both Aldergrove Youth Soccer Club and  Central Okanagan Youth Soccer Associations, their local organizing committee and partners did a tremendous job in hosting their respective B Cup Finals in difficult conditions.

BC Soccer greatly appreciates all of their hard work that went into delivering a fantastic event,” said Don Dancey, BC Soccer Competitions Committee Chair and BC Soccer Director.

The boy’s championships featured wins in each of the six age group’s for teams from the lower mainland, fighting off tough competition from island and interior teams.

In both the U13 and U14, Surrey FC teams were victorious with the Ravens winning gold at U13 with a 4-0 final win over the Sunshine Coast Scorpions and Barca beating Langley United 5-0 at U14.

At U15, CCB Elite were dominant, conceding only one goal in four undefeated games which culminated in a 2-0 win over South Burnaby Metro Vipers in the gold medal game.

The U16 boy’s final was a closely fought affair with GAC Extreme taking gold with a 2-1 win over Douglas Park Rangers whilst West Vancouver Spuraways dominated the U17 championships, going undefeated in four games and beating Lakehill from Vancouver Island 3-0 in Sundays final game.

North Delta United were crowned the U18 champions, overwhelming North Van FC Fury, previously undefeated in round robin play, by 4-0.

“Everyone involved had an excellent time both organizing and participating in these championships. The many comments on our superb facilities, six grass fields, the clubhouse overlooking the games and the well-organized tournament made it all worthwhile,” said Bill Ede, Tournament Director and President of Aldergrove Youth Soccer Club.

Extreme heat was the biggest challenge for many of the girls’ team in Kelowna as temperatures soared over the four day championship.

The gold medal winning teams came from across the Province in what was a very open and competitive championship.

CCB Elite took both the girls U13 and U18 titles, the U13 team beating hosts Kelowna United 5-0 and their U18’s beating Gorge FC from Vancouver Island 2-1.

Powell River Cobras overcame Nelson Selects 5-0 in a very one sided U14 final game whilst hosts Kelowna United triumphed in the U15 final, beating Coquitlam Metro Ford SC Black Ice 2-1.

The Penticton Pinnacles took gold in the U16 final game, beating NCU Extreme 5-1 with the U17 winners coming from Vancouver Island in the shape of Nanaimo Impact, 2-1 winners over Poco Fury.

This event was extremely successful with special “thanks” to everyone who helped out. Everyone came away a winner.
