Langley’s Jake Tapp demonstrate his versatility this week at the Summer Nationals swimming competition capped by a golden performance on Sunday in the men’s 200-metre individual medley.
Tapp won the race in 2:03.01 narrowly beating Etobicoke native Bogdan Knezevic for mere second with a time of 2:03.67 and fellow (Etobicoke) swimmer Hassaan Abdel-Khalik third at 2:04.79.
As well Tapp won the 100 butterfly and surpassed the Swanston brothers in the 100 backstroke. Both brothers are from Newmarket Ontario.
Edmonton based swimmers won the other three men’s finals: Luke Peddie 50 freestyle Richard Funk 200 breaststroke Kier Maitland 1,500 freestyle.
Funk was also a triple champion this weekend winning all three breaststroke races.
The women’s side saw New West’s Sherry Liu grab the 800 freestyle, Ottawa’s Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson nail the 200 IM, Winnipeg’s Chantal VanLandeghem take the 50 freestyle and Ashley McGregor from Pointe-Claire hit the wall first in the 200 breaststroke.
It was a second win for Seltenreich-Hodgson, VanLandeghem and McGregor.
The Canadian Age Group Championships are next on the national swimming scheduled from July 25-30 in Calgary.
