International Match

Both Canada and Germany worked out for the last time before the “friendly” to be played at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver June 18th in front of what is expected to be a large crowd for the match.

herdmanCanadian Coach John Herman spoke of the importance of the match as Canadian Women’s soccer prepares to host the World Cup in 2015 as these friendly matches “are a big part of getting team some valuable playing time against world class teams” that will also be there when it kicks off in Canada June 5, 2015

Several other matches are scheduled as the time builds for the team as they take on Japan later in the fall back here at BC Place and some other matches that will be announced in October of this year.
He spoke of “the chance for the veterans able to work with some of the younger players to get a chance to play for a spot  for the team that will be finalized in the next year to provide some important substitutions, of which are five possible players to watch.
They are all talented and solid individuals who bring much added punch to the pitch that include – Sura Yekka, Kadeisha Buchanan, Rebecca Quinn, Ashley Lawrence and Jessie Fleming.
I had a chance to talk to goalkeeper Erin McLeod a veteran of 80 games for Canada and 25 caps “this is great preparation for the big games ahead for us to be fully in focus of where we need to be when the World Cup takes place next year.”
She continued “It’s great to be in Vancouver we love the fans here they have always been great supporters of the game and really get up pumped up and inspire on to the challenges we are facing it’s great to see the good young players coming aboard that we can groom for the future of the game in Canada to see what they can do against world class opposition”
“Germany is one of the top ranked clubs in the world and it’s always tough to play against them but hopefully with the home crowd cheering us on we will be fine and reward them for the effort.”
“Coach Silva Neil of Germany was very gracious in his remarks about the game and the respect that his club has for a great Canadian Women’s team ranked 7th in FIFA  this will be a great challenge for our team tomorrow night here at BC Place Stadium quiet now but will be very noisy come game time.”
“We respect the opposition very much a dangerous team to play against with the likes of Christine Sinclair of the top five players in the world but coach Herdman we know will field a strong team of veteran players in the game of football.”
“Our players including midfielder Germany’s midfielder Dzsenifer Marozsan will be going against a world class team from Canada with several veterans in the line-up and as Canada prepares for the 2015 World Cup.
We will continue to have friendly matches as well as qualifying for the big tournament a year from in Canada and we are looking forward to the game on Wednesday at BC Place in Vancouver of which will be a great night for football.”
It’ll be a fun night at BC Place!!
