Vancouver’s Inaki Gomez finished 14th in the men’s 20-kilometre race walk at the 2012 IAAF World Race Walking Cup in Saransk, Russia on Saturday. Gomez crossed the line in an Olympic A standard time 1:21:58.
He now needs a top three placing at the Track and Field Trials to confirm his ticket to London. Creighton Connolly (Vancouver) finished 81st in a new personal best of 1:30:49, Benjamin Thorne (Kitimat) was 85th in 1:31:26, while Bruno Carrière (Lachute) placed 102nd in 1:43:28.
Evan Dunfee (Richmond) did not finish.
On the women’s side Rachel Seaman (Peterborough) lead the way in the 20-kilometre event finishing 46th overall in a time of 1:38:44.
Nicola Evangelista (Vancouver) was 63rd in a personal best time of 1:42:37.
Four of Canada’s Fab 5 in Doha
The 2012 Diamond League kicked off on Friday in Doha, Qatar featuring four of Canada’s five world class hurdlers.
Phylicia George (Markham) came out on top finishing in third place in an Olympic A+ standard time of 12.79 seconds.
Perdita Felicien (Pickering) and Priscilla Lops-Schliep (Whitby) finished fifth and sixth respectively.
A review of the photo finish was necessary to determine their respective placing as they both crossed the line in 12.95-seconds (Olympic A standard).
Nikkita Holder (Pickering) finished eight; she hit a hurdle early and fell but got back up and finished the race in 20.81-seconds.
