Success For Mission

It started over a year ago and the thousands of hours, the volunteers and the community made it happen for  Mission and surrounding area.

bc games medalsWith the final medal count Fraser Valley Zone 3 was atop the final medal count and managed to pull off 103 total medals with the count rounding out at 30 Gold, 33 Silver and 40 Bronze.

Second runner up was Vancouver-Squamish with 77, while placing third was the Thompson-Okanagan Zone 2 with a combined 65 medals.

HOCKEY

On the hockey side the Fraser Valley Female team came away with the Gold Medal as they managed to pull off a 3-2 victory over the Fraser River Delta with goals coming from Alicia Perez of Aldergrove, Priya Sidhu of Surrey and Maple Ridge’s Alexis Kahlert.

RINGETTE

Thompson-Okanagan won in the Ringette over Fraser River Delta by a 9-2 score with the game played at MRC in Abbotsford.

CURLING

Curling  came to a close with the Gold Medal matches at the Mission Leisure Centre and on the boys side, Fraser River Delta rink skipped by Richmond’s Brayden Carpenter edged Vancouver-Squamish Jay Ueda rink with the final ends seeing them pull off a 5-4 win for the title.

The Fraser Valley Girls rink was skipped by Dezaray Hawes of Anmore, who beat Prince George’s Alyssa Connell and her Cariboo-North East foursome by a resounding margin of 8-1.

Tyler Tardi of Surrey was named Curl BC’s Junior Male Athlete of the year in 2012 and takes part in the high performance program and was awarded the WR Bennett Award for Athletic Excellence at the games in Mission.

SPEEDSKATING

The Fraser Valley finished first and second in the U16 3000 metre relay, capping off a successful second and final day on Saturday afternoon in speed skating for the Zone Three team.

The relay races wrapped up the two day competition at the Abbotsford Recreation Center.

Fraser Valley Zone Three – Team One, grabbed Gold and was made up of Madison Karpes, Cara Maltese, Alex Chizawsky and Michael Warkentin.

The Fraser Valley Zone Three Team Two finished second and was made up of Bekky Clemons, Maria Kim, Steven Lim and Adam Holtby.

The Thompson Okanagan Zone Two team got Gold and was made up of Connie Kapak, Yolaine Kampman, Eric Spence and Eli Shock.

The previous Winter games held in Vernon attracted 2210 Volunteer’s, 1124 Athlete’s, 286 Coaches and Managers and 167 Officials for the entire event.
