Darryl Sydor Pleads Guilty

Assistant coach Darryl Sydor “pleaded guilty to second-degree driving while impaired Monday.”

Russo reported Sydor received a mandatory 15-day jail sentence as part of the judge’s decision, but, including time served, “Sydor will actually serve two long weekends at the Anoka County Workhouse beginning Friday.”

Carl Newquist the prosecuting attorney stated “the assistant coach was sentenced to 365 days in jail, with 60 executed and the remaining 305 days were stayed for four years, the term of Sydor’s probation.”

Sydor cannot drink alcohol or use drugs unless prescribed by a doctor and must provide proof of treatment as part of his probation.Sydor

For his reckless encounter he was fined a mere $900 (US) and must pay $113 (US) in court costs for his actions.

The Wild released a statement indicating that they will support his recovery and would address his return to the organization at a later date.

Ex-Giant out Three Months

The Flames were dealt a huge blow this past week stating that former Vancouver Giant Lance Bouma would be out of action for the next three months.

This following a hit from St. Louis Blues Ryan Reaves having Bouma hobbling to the bench to which GM Brad Trelving stated he had broken his Fibula.Bouma

Last season saw Bouma with a huge season picking up 16 goals and 18 assists signing a three-year contract extension for $6.6 million.

He is listed as a top-nine forward and finished seventh in the NHL with 264 hits last year.

Real-Meal Deal

Regardless of your thought on the “new kid on the block” Oilers Connor McDavid (18) has what it takes to play in the NHL and he is showing signs of this, notching 5 points in his first 5games.

He comes to the rink to play and is having fun doing it, which is naturally rubbing off on all his team-mates, which can only help the Oilers franchise.McDavid

Great selection, but living in the cellar for a few years naturally paid off.

Canucks

The Canucks are coming off a 2-1 O/T loss to the Oilers in a game that could have gone either way at the end, but this night they fell just short.

Regardless of the loss, they have to be happy with the play of “rookies” Jake Virtanen and Jared McCann, both born in 1996.

The game against the Blues was the first time the Canucks had dressed two young 18 year-old players in the same line-up since November 1988 and one of the players was current Club President Trevor Linden.

Other Canucks news tells us that no team has requested permission to talk to former bench-boss John Tortorella who signed a five-year deal worth a reported $10-million dollars.john tortorella

He is however coaching the US for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey and who knows – this might be the return of “Mr. Ego” himself.

If you ask fans in the Vancouver market, this was probably one of the worst moves the Canucks ever made.
