The morning proved busy for the Vancouver Giants organization seeing a press conference in addition to making a pair of moves plus adding 3 new players to the line-up. All this without losing any current players on the present roster.
The press conference entailed ownership announcing a significant discount on tickets for the first three home games. The discounted tickets are in the red section of the Coliseum and will sell for $15.00 including HST, plus service charge.
This is a savings of $4.00 per ticket for only the first three games.
With the cancellation of the NHL the Giants are expected to gain further exposure to the market in the area. Owner and former NHL player Pat Quinn was on hand to unveil the Giants new retro uniforms to be worn on opening night.
Player Moves In one move, the Giants acquired (94) forward Tristan Sieben from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a 6th-round bantam draft pick in 2014.
Sieben (Edmonton) is listed at 5’9; 187lbs appeared in 34 games picking up 5 goals, 14 total points along with 32 PIM’s for the defending WHL Champions. “In Tristan we acquire a player from an elite program, whom brings an excellent work ethic and will add to our depth up front”, the Giants GM commented on Monday.
The other move was with the Kelowna Rockets, which had them acquire (94) Tanner Moar (forward) plus d-man 17 year old Stewart Coyle. Heading to the Interior is a 2014 4th round pick and a 6th round pick in 2015. Moar at 6’3, 180lbs hails from Canwood Saskatchewan played in 65 games last season; where he registered 5 goals and 8 points.
Here’s what Scott Bonner said in regards to Tanner: “We felt he’s a big, strong guy that could add a different element to our forward group, as it became apparent through the exhibition season that we were lacking some grit” Meanwhile, Stewart Coyle is the youngest player in this deal.
He hails from Sicamous, BC and just turned 17 one month ago. Listed at 6’2, 185lbs, Coyle spent last season playing for his hometown Junior B team, the Sicamous Eagles of the KIJHL, where he picked up 5 points through 22 games.
However through 4 pre-season games with the Rockets, Coyle has 1 goal and 3 points. “With Stuart we acquire a young, raw defensive prospect that has some offensive upside”, noted Bonner.
The addition of these 3 players has left the Giants with a bit of a numbers issue as the season opener approaches this Friday.
The team was sitting at 26 total players before these moves, which includes the injured Arvin Atwal.
Adding 3 new players brings the current total up to 29, so expect more moves to be made over the next couple of days.
