Lock-Out Official CBA Expires

The Sept. 15 deadline for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement between the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players’ Association passed without an agreement being reached.

As a result, training camps will not open until agreement on a new CBA is reached. Executives from the NHL and NHLPA last met Wednesday, when proposals for a new CBA were exchanged.

An agreement was not reached and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said Saturday no formal negotiating sessions are scheduled. “We spoke [Saturday] and determined that there was no point in convening a formal bargaining session in light of the fact that neither side is in a position to move off of its last proposal,” Daly said. “I’m sure we will keep in touch in the coming days and schedule meetings to the extent they might be useful or appropriate.

We are sorry for where we are. Not what we hoped or expected.

From the NHLPA site:

The NHLPA wrapped two days of Executive Board and Negotiation Committee meetings in New York on Thursday, a meeting that saw 283 Players attend for an update on the on-going collective bargaining negotiations.

In what is the largest turnout for a non-ratification vote meeting in the history of the NHLPA, the players were able to hear directly from Executive Director Don Fehr as well as other NHLPA staff on the status of the negotiations with the NHL. The players were able to voice their opinions, ask important questions and determine the next steps as the NHL imposed the lockout the lockout.
Canucks site:
As you are aware the NHL and NHLPA were unable to agree on a successor Collective Bargaining Agreement before September 15th.

The Vancouver Canucks remain hopeful that a new Collective Bargaining Agreement will be reached as soon as possible

In the interim, we will continue to focus the efforts and talent of our entire staff and coaches on the values of grassroots hockey in British Columbia.

We also will continue with our ongoing community initiatives, including children’s health and wellness through Canucks Autism Network,

Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and BC Children’s Hospital — as well as the support of literacy at the Canucks Family Education Centre. As always, we appreciate your patience and loyalty.

We want to say again how much we appreciate your support and passion for your Canucks.

We look forward to returning to the ice at Rogers Arena as soon as possible. Our staff and coaches have worked hard over the summer months to make sure we will be ready to play at a moment’s notice.

One has to ask – HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?
