Synchronized Skating Championships

Burnaby will play host for the 2014 Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships and will run from February 21-23 at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre.

“The province of British Columbia has proven itself as a terrific host for figure skating events,” said William Thompson, Skate Canada CEO. “We are pleased to be heading to Burnaby for the 2014 Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships. We hope that fans will help to raise the noise level as they cheer on the best synchronized skating teams in Canada.”

“I am thrilled that Burnaby has been successful in its bid to host the 2014 Skate Canada National Synchronized Skating Championships,” says Burnaby mayor, Derek Corrigan. “It is an honour to have our City and facilities recognized by Skate Canada.

The Bill Copeland Sports Centre is an exceptional venue that will help ensure the success of this major national event.

We look forward to showcasing our exemplary skating facilities while welcoming to our City the hundreds of skaters, coaches and volunteers – and the thousands of spectators – who will attend these Championships during a season that typically sees fewer visitors.

In addition to experiencing what is sure to be an exciting and memorable event, I know that all who attend and participate will enjoy the hospitality and the hundreds of attractions Burnaby has to offer.”

The 2014 Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships will bring approximately 50 teams and over 1,000 skaters from across the country to the city.

Teams will compete for national titles in the senior, junior, open, intermediate and novice categories.

The top two (2) Senior Teams will represent Canada at the 2014 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships from April 4-5, 2014 in Courmayeur, Italy.

The 2012 Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships will be held in Windsor, Ont., at the WFCU Centre from February 23-25, 2012.

The 2013 event will be hosted by Calgary, Alta., at the WinSport Canada’s Athletic and Ice Complex (AIC) from February 22-24, 2013.
