Skaters are to have a close working relationship with the Coach and not only believe, but trust that this individual has there best interest at heart, or so the story goes?
In any sport other than possibly figure skating, the working relationship between the Coach and skaters in this case; is to be that of trust and it seems that just possibly Marina Zueva has chosen sides.
The Coach of Canada’s top ice dance team and their closest competitors the USA seems to be considered a conflict of interest.
Ms. Zueva is an extremely talented Russian choreographer and not only coaches Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, but also Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White. Conflict or not???
In the world of figure skating one has to ponder how one Coach could be in charge of the world’s two best Olympic ice dance teams at the same time and expect nothing to go wrong is like reading Mary Poppins.
The Canadian skating pair had first stated “It’s fine, we make it work”, but maybe now they are having second thoughts.
The Canadians seem to now be having second thoughts and thus what could be a new soap opera – DAY’S OF TESSA AND SCOTT.
The pair told the media “We sometimes felt like [Ms. Zueva] wasn’t in our corner, and we were both pretty blunt with her in the fall and leading up to the Sochi Olympics that we weren’t happy.”
Their comments naturally came a day after Ms. Virtue and Mr. Moir settled for Olympic Silver, and Ms. Davis and Mr. White took the Gold.
It was interesting to see that when they marched in the opening ceremonies in Vancouver, Ms. Zueva was by their side, but when the Olympics in Sochi came about she chose to be with the American skaters, which would be hard for any Athlete to see.
The feeling is that the style that Tessa and Scott have has fallen out of favour with the judges, who were the darlings of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
One must think that Ms.. Zueva only wanted to go with a winner and this time around, politics aside, she wanted to be a winner in her home Country of Russia and just think, it might be worth something?
One also has to ask “why does Skate Canada allow this to happen in the first place or did they think this would never happen.”
If this is the case, someone should be open to answer this simple question and give some type of honest answer.
Wait just a minute – we are talking about Figure Skating – Judging and Honesty in the sport.
Something’s not right with this statement!!!!
