Comox Valley RV Half Marathon

The sixth race in the Frontrunners Island Race Series Comox Valley RV Half Marathon, kicked off another year of excitement.

The race was hosted by the Comox Valley Road Runners and featured six separate age group course records.

comox valley raceLocal runner Derek Vinge from the Comox Valley Road Runners won in 1:11:59. Second was Thomas Holme (Prairie Inn Harriers) in 1:13:43 and third was Nicholas Walker (Frontrunners Athletic Club) in 1:13:55.

Top female was Claire Morgan (Prairie Inn Harriers) finishing in 1:19:52, second was Kristen Smart (Vancouver Falcons Athletic Club) in 1:23:41 and third was Christy Lovig in 1:24:08.

Top Master was Vince Brotherston (Comox Valley Road Runners) in 1:16:39 and top female Master was Wendy Simms (Bastion Running Club) in 1:28:27.

“It was a very successful day with perfect conditions for racing for the 476 finishers. There were many personal bests as well as the six age group course records,” said Race Director, Wayne Crowe.

The course records were set in the W 20-24 by Kaylee Beales (1:26:20 – a tied record)50-54 by Vince Brotherston (1:16:39); W 60-64 by Lois Klingbeil (1:37:44); M 60-64 by Les Disher (1:24:44); W 65-69 by Roslyn Smith (1:39:26) and W 75-79 by Christine Rodgers (2:19:33).

Prairie Inn Harriers lead the Island Series club standings with 2884 points, with Comox Valley Road Runners second (1888) and Bastion Running Club third (1644).

Eight races make up the Frontrunners Island Race Series. Comox Valley RV Half Marathon will be followed by Merville 15K on April 6, and Sooke River 10K on April 13.

The Comox Valley RV Half Marathon is part of the Timex BC Series. All races are sanctioned by BC Athletics.
