Looking at another area to make your travel plans for either the upcoming Easter weekend, Victoria Day or your summer plans, think about taking a trip to Vancouver Island and spend some time in the Comox Valley.
If you spend time on the Island on one of the BC Ferries either from Tsawassen to Victoria or Tsawassen to Nanaimo or even Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo you’ll won’t be disappointed in the scenic trip, but be sure to have your phone charges or your camera for photos.
The area is bordered by the Strait of Georgia as well as the Comox lake which is fed by the Comox Glacier, noting that the rivers in the area wander through the valley with the Puntledge being the largest.
Having personally lived in the area for a number of years as well as my parents for just shy of thirty years, it’s an area that offers everything from skiing in the winter months or spending time taking in some of the scenic golf courses or festivals.
While the winter might be coming to a close you can enjoy local mountain biking or simply hike along one of the many rivers in the area,

If you enjoy spending time on the water you have the choice of things to do from Kayaking, Canoeing and Paddle Boarding which also offer fishing for salmon as well as many wildlife in the area.
If you’re an avid golfer you can play on one of many scenic golf courses the area has to offer and if that’s not your cup of tea stroll down to Little River or Kye Bay at Point Holmes venturing back through to Comox.

As for restaurants there are many that offer up a variety of specialty foods that you won’t be disappointed in given the cuisine they all offer for everyone who stops in to enjoy the area’s finest foods.
I would be remiss if I failed to mention that they have festivals throughout the year celebrating everything from music and shellfish, to fine art and aviation.
The ares is Home of the Filberg Festival, Comox Nautical Days, Cumberland’s Empire Days and Mom’s favorite Trumpeter Swan Festival,
The area is known as Canada’s year-round recreational capital with world class skiing, 6 golf courses and the best salmon fishing on the West Coast as well as several Bicycle tours.
If you venture around the area there are five breweries within driving distance from Cumberland to Courtenay making the way to Comox which are not only close but also inviting for everyone stopping in.
There are what some call “traditional-style” pubs and tap-rooms that showcase different beers from across the region can be found at Blackfin Pub in Comox which is highly recommended by my Niece who stops in when she ventures west.
Roy’s Towne Pub in Royston, and Church St Taphouse in Comox. For something extra special, why not try a complimentary tasting and join a tour at Wayward Distillery in Courtenay where spirits are made from 100% BC honey and grain.
Feel free to also visit The Waverley in Cumberland or even the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay that host live music events including having DJ’s in the house.
While my time doesn’t always permit me to venture over to the area it’s an area that offers memories reflecting back on yesteryear for me and the Family.
Plan ahead – but most of all enjoy your time in the Comox Valley!!!!
