Chock Hold Stops Fight

I often get sent things from various areas of the sporting world, but this story naturally intrigued me to no end and it was done in the name of safety for a fighter.

UFC have some of the strongest officials in sport and that is one reason why a British official who has worked UFC fights since 2008, Roberts is also a lifelong martial artist, has no second guess as to when to stop a fight that is going “south”.

In a recent Fight UK MMA amateur bout between Nathias Frederick and Ahmed Aswad held in Leicester (England),up game and Aswad scoring a couple of takedowns.

With about 40 seconds left in the first round, Frederick caught Aswad on the chin with a left hook, putting his opponent out and falling him to the canvas.

Seeing this, the referee (Roberts) ran across the cage to call a halt to the action, to which Frederick refused to back off as instructed and was attempting to further injure the KO’d fighter.

Eventually Fredericks slunk off to his corner and hopefully think of what he had done, but maybe not as he was so moved in causing further damage to his opponent.

As of yet, there has been no word on whether any further form of disciplinary action would be taken against him for his refusal to stop as instructed by the referee..

The scene was somewhat reminiscent of a recent hockey brawl when ref Soren Persson of the Swedish Hockey League put Norwegian forward Marius Holtet in a guillotine choke in order to put an end to the fisticuffs.

Good action by a quick thinking referee possibly saved a life in this case!!
