CEBL Attracts Record Numbers

Basketball in the lower mainland and province continues to grow due to the popularity as well as the cost for the families which in some cases takes priority.

The recent championships held in Langley at the Langley Events Centre proved to be a huge success, not only for the Bandits but also the league.

Now we are hearing that the league continues to attract record numbers.

The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) revealed Thursday official record growth numbers across the business from the 2023 season, including a 52% spike in league-wide attendance and a 75% increase in total broadcast viewership. The CEBL also set new highs in yearly growth across all social media channels, digital platforms and CEBL+ content and subscribers.
Record growth highlights from the 2023 CEBL season include:

  • Record 52% increase in total attendance over 2022
  • League record 10,580 fans at Winnipeg Sea Bears vs. Edmonton Stingers playoff game August 4 at Canada Life Centre
  • 9 out of the 10 CEBL arenas experienced at least two sold out games

Broadcast

  • Total broadcast viewership was up 75% over 2022
  • First year of TSN as the official broadcaster of the CEBL with a record 20 games on national TV
  • All national broadcasts featuring the Montreal Alliance were broadcast live on RDS
  • Estimated 3.1 million total broadcast impressions overall

Social Media

  • 88% year-over-year growth in followership across all CEBL social channels
  • Nearly 23 million total social media impressions to date in 2023

  • Digital Platforms
  • 82% yearly growth CEBL Mobile App downloads
  • More than 1,250,000 unique page visits to cebl.ca during the 2023 season
  • League record 14% of all website views from outside Canada

CEBL+ / OTT

  • 67% growth in CEBL+ subscribers
  • CEBL+ live-stream views rose 28%
  • Record 282,100+ livestream and content views on CEBL+
  • League record 439 pieces of video content published and archived on CEBL+ platform during the 2023 season
