Vancouver Whitecaps Moved into a tie for top spot in the Western Conference following a battle against their rivals from Los Angeles.

Both clubs played to a scoreless draw played in front of 22, 120 BC Place Stadium that saw them move into a tie for top spot in the Western Conference.

The sellout crowd marks the first time that the WhiteCaps have played in front of back to back sellouts crowd at the start the start of a season since 2017.

Alphonso Davies managed a run down the left flank that was crossed into the penalty area and blocked by a Galaxy defender setting up an exciting start to start the game getting the fans into the match early in the contest.

Minutes later midfielder Galaxy’s Perry Kitchen takes down Davies in a no call tackle at midfield by referee Fotis Bazakos.

The match settled down and was like watching a fine tuned chess match with each club looking at getting the jump on an open pawn.

The Caps were hoping to crack the defense of the Galaxy that set up a cross by Vancouver’s Cristian Techera after a foul by defender Tomas Hilliard-Arce headed out of danger the Galaxy defense.

Vancouver attackers opened the game up taking control in the Galaxy end with several quality opportunities with set plays but unable to convert.

The Caps front line played smart attacking football in the opening 25 minutes as the Galaxy faced consistent pressure from the Caps.

Vancouver entertained the fans with open play at both ends of the field by both defending strong and pushing the ball forward making life miserable for the the Galaxy.

The opening half had the Galaxy on their heels playing a bend but don’t break defense testing David Bingham who has come up big in this match.

The 34th minute saw Kamara try to beat defender Daniel Steres who managed to connect high boot that was followed by a long ball from the left midfield by Felipe to Techera only to have his shot just sail over the crossbar.

This was followed by a chance from kamara at the edge of the box forcing Bingham to make the save with the rebound bouncing off the whitecaps striker heading out of play.

The game remained scoreless in the opening half to the delight of the sellout crowd but was very entertaining as the teams went to the intermission.

The second half saw Vancouver come out strong having an approach of attack against the Galaxy but be wary of the LA counter attack.

The best chance of the night saw Ariel Lassiter take a cross from Emmanuel Boateng heading the ball just wide of the near post past Stefan Marinovic in the 53rd minute.

Galaxy’s Emmanuel Boateng had a great chance but sent a shot wide off the post that saw Caps defender Aaron Maund force the shot wide off the markin the 59th minute.

The tempo of the game picked up with a short 20 minutes remaining resulting with both clubs having exceptional scoring chances with both teams using their subs late in the match.

Galaxy’s Chris Pontius came for Ariel Lassiter in the 65th minute, while Vancouver saw Brek Shea sub for Marcel de Jong and Jordon Munch relieve Efrain Juarez in the 75th minute.

LA’s other sub saw Baggio Husidic relieve Sebastian Lletget in the 81st minute, while the final sub for Vancouver saw Anthony Blondell relieve Yordy Reyna in the 85th minute.

This tie see’s Vancouver move into a first place tie with Sporting Kansas City with both clubs having a record of 2-1-1 with 7 points in the Western Conference.

The caps hit the road for a pair of games March 31st in Columbus followed by a match April 7th at Real Salt Lake before returning home to host Los Angeles Football Club on April 13th at BC Place Stadium.

Prior to the game Vancouver striker Kei Kamara who scored his 100th Major Soccer League goal against Montreal in the home opener was honored for achieving his goal becoming on the second player in league history to record that feat.
