Call For Candidates

The CPC is currently seeking applications for IPC Standing Committees for the term of office (2014 – 2017).

We hereby invite you to recommend candidates to the CPC for membership to the following IPC Standing Committees by Monday, 10 February 2014

  • Anti-Doping Committee
  • Audit and Finance Committee
  • Classification Committee
  • Legal and Ethics Committee
  • Medical Committee
  • Sport Science Committee

Super AthletesFor all other IPC Committees, the call for candidates will be opened after the IPC Governing Board has considered the recommendations at their meeting in June 2014.

After the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, the IPC Governing Board will appoint the Chairperson of each IPC Standing Committee mentioned above, and will then consider the recommendations from each Chairperson for membership in his/her IPC Standing committee.

We expect that at their meeting in June 2014, the IPC Governing Board will approve the full membership for these IPC Standing Committees.

The IPC Standing Committees provide expert advice to the IPC Governing Board and to the Management Team. A brief summary of their functions can be found below:

Committee Summary of functions
Anti-Doping Committee 
  • To advise the IPC on all policy matters related to anti-doping and the fight against doping, including compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code, and to assist the operations in this area, including results management, education and in-and out-of-competition testing coordination.
Audit and Finance Committee
  • To assist with the establishment of financial policies, guidelines and procedures, including the development of the IPC budget, accounting activities, and the annual audited accounts.
Classification Committee
  • To create strategic recommendations related to the on-going evaluation and further development of classification systems of all sports in the Paralympic Movement, and to monitor compliance of the IPC Membership with the IPC Classification Code.
Legal and Ethics Committee 
  • To conduct a regular review of the IPC Constitution, Bylaws, Codes, Policies, Standing Orders and other IPC Rules and Regulations; and to provide advice to the Governing Board and CEO on any legal matter as required.
  • To provide advice on the broader ethical aspects relevant to the organization, to consider any appeals to various types of decisions and complaints regarding (alleged) breaches of the IPC Code of Ethics, and to monitor the nomination and election processes.
Medical Committee
  • To provide recommendations on all policies and operational matters related to the medical care of Paralympic athletes, including the review of TUE Applications in accordance with the WADC and International Standard for TUE, and monitoring the implementation of event-related medical care programmes.
Sports Science Committee
  • To establish policies and guidelines in order to enhance scientific knowledge and to promote sports science education and sports medicine development in Paralympic sport.

 

Applications will be reviewed by the External Representation Committee Chaired. The committee will than make final recommendations on candidates to be submitted to the IPC.

Candidates should include in their letter of interest information detailing their experience including but not limited to the following:

  • Experience and exposure to working at the international level
  • Connection to, and familiarity with related networks which would assist in this role
  • Clear understanding and competence in this functional area as it relates to athletes with a disability
  • Experience in fields related to their committee work (ex. Medical, financial, legal-ethical, research, etc.)
