The City of Delta again worked with Alpha Aviation Inc and to the delight of everyone once again put the Boundary Bay Airshow on display to the delight of thousands who took the event in.
Ask anyone of my family and they’ll tell you that other than sports and music there is nothing more than I enjoy watching than an airshow considering that this was our way of life when we were kids.
Having said that you should know that Dad was a proud member of the RCAF as were several of his Brothers who all had stellar career’s in various roles.
As kids or young adults we were fortunate to be able to attend air show performances prior to the show itself and maybe that one just one of many “perks” that we enjoyed as kids.
When Dad was stationed in CFB Comox we got to know a few of the Snowbird Pilots as well as others who flew in to Comox for various airshows.
The City of Delta continue to work to make Delta a place that you want to come visit and quite possibly settle down and call our place your home too.
The event will feature the USAF Air Combat Command A-10 Thunderbolt II as well as performances by Brad Wursten and Pete McLeod.
For those who have seen him perform in the past this year he will once again push the extreme with the most impressive aerobatic aircraft in the world in his MX2.
Once again you were able to watch Canadian Pete McLeod who is one of the top Red Bull racers in addition to Vicky Benzing, Mike Tryggvason, Ross Granley and the Northern Stars team.
While the event never kicked-off until noon there were thousands outside the gates all waiting to get in early to secure the best seat possible for their families.
Again we had a chance to chat with Delta Mayor George Harvie, several council members, City staff as well as members of the Delta Police Pipe Band who have a tour in August.
Young and old were thrilled by not only the static display on the ground but also by their aerial performers that were kept informed from Ric Peterson the airshow announcer.
For those unfamiliar with his background he was previously a radio DJ in Montreal and as he told us never in the air force, but loved the excitement of the planes.
Ric has announced around the world and loves returning to Boundary Bay for the annual Air Show that he schedules a year in advance, being sure to book Delta first.
Each year both myself and Kevin Adlem with EastlinkTV have this marked on our calendar which we enjoy not just the performers but also the behind the scenes events that we are able to take in.
No different than in the past, coverage of the Air Show will be on Eastlink TV for those fortunate to be a customer for the station.
This year we were fortunate to catch the action of @fly_inverted_300 and his MX2 as well as @fly_inverted_300 and his MX2 t, plus Lindsay “MAD” Johnson to the airshow.
In addition to the above; I for one continue to look forward to the return of the Erickson Aircraft Collection F4U-7 Corsair which continues to be a crowd favourite,
This aircraft is not only unique and for those not familiar with it, catch the plane in action at the movie @devotionmovie and look for the Corsair number 211 to see her fly.
The Erickson Aircraft Collection B-17 is at the airshow and on static display which was parked inside the grounds which allows you to get up close with this flying beauty of a beast.
Interestingly enough you should know that the one on display is the last of the B-17 “Pathfinders” that were built.
Thanks to everyone who came over to chat with us and again thanks to the City of Delta for bringing this to Boundary Bay which was free for the public to attend.
The City continue to make this bigger and better each year and all we can say is “Wait till next Year”
