Bob Elliott Introduced As New Senior Leader 4 Sport Matters

It was made official in an announcement that Bob Elliott is the new Senior Leader for Sport Matters Group.

This was stated by Paul Melia, President and CEO of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and also sits on the Sport Matters Group Administration Group.

He stated “Bob brings a wealth of  not-for-profit sector experience that will greatly benefit the more than 60 national, provincial, multi-sport, physical activity, and recreation organizations that SMG represents.”

As the former Executive Director of Judo Canada he is well known to many in the national sport community in Ottawa for his volunteer work organizing the Mark Lowry Drive for the Podium golf tournament, which has raised over $170,000 since 2006 for current and future Olympic athletes.

Mr. Elliott has also worked for several national associations including the Canadian Printing Industries Association and the Canadian Retail Hardware Association.

These positions have honed his skills at meeting the needs of stakeholders, while nurturing his abilities to advocate on behalf of the sectors he represents.

“Bob is a bilingual, gifted executive with strong leadership abilities and is known for being a good listener and consensus builder,” said Joan Duncan, President of JDI Consulting, who also is with SMG’s Administration Group. “His strong people skills make him the ideal candidate to lead SMG as it continues to reach out to the sport and physical activity community to focus on key public policy issues important to the sector.”

His years at the helm of the Kinsmen & Kinette Clubs of Canada will also help Mr. Elliott harness the enthusiasm and commitment of the volunteer sector to support SMG’s commitment to furthering the Sport for Development Movement in Canada, an important aspect of SMG’s work.

Bob takes up his duties at SMG effective January 14, 2013 and can be reached at 613-231-7472 ext. 222 or by email at bob.elliott@sportmatters.ca
