Beyond Belief?

So it’s not enough that the B.C. Lottery Corporation has money to throw around, but this is beyond belief?

This should be in “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not” but can only happen in BC.

Poker playing should be left up to those who have the funds to do it, so in the case of a Pro Athlete who makes millions playing a sport many can only dream of why is the BC Lottery Corp paying for Roberto Luongo to enter a poker event, in of all places – Las Vegas?

They are paying his entry fee of $10,000 in the World Series of Poker.

Luongo, who has more than $47 million remaining on his long-term contract with the Canucks, has (apparently) an endorsement deal with the lottery corporation.

As part of that contract, the lottery corporation confirmed that Luongo represents them at a number of gaming events, including the World Series of Poker main event. While the price on entry for such a tournament is pretty high, the fun offered by new microgaming games might be more accessible for fans of gambling, slot and table games. Besides, many of these online casinos have just as wide a variety of games as any physical casino, if not more. Some people just prefer the enjoyment of table games from the comfort of home on Swedish casino sites rather than the competitive environment in front of the cameras and the lights of the World Series of Poker. Sometimes, knowing what casino sites (which often include the popular game of poker) are the best to use is tricky. Searching online to find the best of the best and using platforms like toponlinebetting.in makes it easier.

A BCLC spokesperson defended the corporation’s deal with Luongo.

“Businesses commonly partner with celebrities or sports figures to help strengthen their brand image,” Kim Steinhart, BCLC’s senior public affairs officer, said in a statement early Thursday night. “Roberto Luongo is an well-known celebrity in our marketplace, and a natural fit for this type of a marketing approach.”The partnership provides BCLC with an opportunity to build the PlayNow.com brand by providing our customers with an opportunity to interact in a meaningful way with a well-known sports celebrity.

The money for Luongo’s agreement is part of BCLC’s annual marketing budget and has no impact on revenue that flows through to the province.”

A Twitter account (believed to be Luongo’s) sent out tweets earlier this week saying: “Well it’s official my bags are packed … For Vegas!

Going to play in the World Series of Poker Main Event this weekend!

Huge thank you to Playnow.com for this opportunity. “World Series of Poker spokesman Seth Palansky said Thursday that the main event field has not yet been finalized, but confirmed Luongo is expected to play.

So assuming he wins’s – who gets his winnings? Should it go to the kids who only wish they could play any sport?

This is beyond belief?

I for one think that he has done “lot’s” for the City and hockey in BC, but this shocks me.

Time for the Government to stand up and do what’s right?
